BEML Ltd’s September-quarter net profit declined 31.3 per cent year on year to ₹33 crore, even as revenue from operations grew 42.1 per cent to ₹1,192 crore, as rising material costs and operating expenses weighed on margins. A sharp increase in the current tax expense further impacted the bottom line.
The defence and infrastructure equipment maker reported an EBITDA of ₹80.3 crore for the quarter, up 10 per cent from ₹73 crore in the year-ago period. However, EBITDA margin contracted to 6.7 per cent from 8.7 per cent, reflecting cost pressures during the quarter.
Higher costs, tax outgo weigh on profitability
Cost of materials consumed rose 51.6 per cent year on year to ₹724 crore, outpacing revenue growth. Employee expenses increased to ₹219 crore from ₹203 crore, while other expenses climbed to ₹227 crore from ₹158 crore.
The decline in net profit was also accentuated by a higher tax outgo. Current tax expense surged to ₹26.28 crore during the quarter, compared with ₹60 lakh in the corresponding period last year. This was partly offset by a deferred tax credit of ₹11.91 crore, against a deferred tax expense of ₹1.67 crore a year earlier.
Order book at ₹21,388 crore
BEML received orders worth ₹6,229 crore during the September quarter and executed orders worth ₹1,126 crore. Its order book stood at ₹21,388 crore as of September 30, 2026.
Of the total order book, orders worth ₹3,421 crore are scheduled for execution during the current financial year, while the remaining ₹17,967 crore are slated for execution in subsequent years.
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has granted BEML an exemption from publishing segment-wise information in its financial results.
