Truecaller on Tuesday launched Truecaller Lite in India, a stripped-down version of its caller identification and spam-blocking app designed for Android smartphones with limited storage and up to 4 GB of RAM. The app weighs approximately 10 MB and is available for free on the Google Play Store, with a phased rollout to eligible devices over the coming weeks.
The timing is deliberate. India’s festive shopping season typically sees a spike in scam calls, including fake delivery alerts, fraudulent offers and KYC fraud. Truecaller said the lighter app draws on the same database and detection systems as its main application, which identified over 68 billion spam and fraud calls in 2025.
Truecaller Lite offers caller ID, spam and fraud call blocking, a built-in dialer with call history and contacts, and an after-call screen showing caller details. Features including messaging, voicemail, Family Protection and an AI assistant have been left out to keep the app compact and fast.
“Scammers don’t check what phone you have before they call, and protection should not depend on it either,” said Rishit Jhunjhunwala, CEO of Truecaller.
The Stockholm-headquartered company, listed on Nasdaq Stockholm since 2021, counts over 500 million active users globally. Truecaller Lite is available on Android only and is not offered on iOS.
