Tanishq Natural Diamonds has brought its Signature Couture Edit with designer Rahul Mishra to India following its debut at Paris Couture Week, positioning the limited-edition collection as an exclusive, invitation-led offering aimed at consumers seeking high-value and distinctive jewellery.
The collection, showcased in Mumbai on Wednesday, combines natural white and black diamonds with citrine, emerald, amethyst, pink tourmaline, rubellite and garnet. It includes the Enchanted Canopy and Imperial Cascade Neckwear, with the designs drawing on architectural forms, floral silhouettes and elements of Mishra’s couture language.
Revathi Kant, Chief Design Officer, Titan Company, said the collection was part of Tanishq’s strategy of using collaborations to bring new design expressions to consumers. “Collaboration is part of a strategy in case of Tanishq,” she said, adding that the company has worked with jewellery and fashion designers as well as filmmakers.
Kant said the collection would not be distributed across Tanishq’s wider retail network. “It may not go to all the 500 stores of Tanishq. It may just be in and it will be by invite through exhibition,” she said. The approach, she added, was intended to build a one-to-one relationship with consumers seeking bespoke and limited pieces.
The development comes as Titan sees changing preferences among Indian jewellery consumers, with Kant pointing to a shift towards jewellery as adornment rather than only an investment or status purchase. “Design and aesthetics [play] a very, very important role as against just value,” she said.
Mishra said the collaboration was intended to create a new expression of his couture language, while pushing the boundaries of craftsmanship. “Design, whether you’re designing a garment, or you’re designing a piece of jewellery, or you’re designing furniture, it’s a jugalbandi between designer and craftsman,” he said.
The designer also said the collaboration could contribute to establishing greater Indian design authorship globally. “We want to make sure that whatever we do paves the way for many brands to follow,” Mishra said.
Kant said the collaboration also supports Tanishq’s effort to take Indian design and craftsmanship to international consumers, pointing to the brand’s presence in markets such as the US. The collection’s Mumbai showcase followed its presentation in Paris and was held at The Taj Mahal Palace.
