Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Wednesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Seva Teerth in New Delhi in what was his first official visit to the national capital after assuming office earlier this month.
During his visit, Vijay received guard of honour at House.
This is the actor-turned-politician’s first official visit to the national capital after winning the trust vote on May 13 with the support of Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) MLAs.
According to an ANI report, Vijay is expected to meet Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, Union Minister , and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during his New Delhi visit. He may also meet senior Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi.
Vijay had unveiled his 33-member Cabinet on May 24. Home, Police, General Administration, Women Welfare and Municipal Administration departments. The finance department went to former AIADMK veteran K A Sengottaiyan, while health, medical education and family welfare went to Dr K G Arunraj. Arakkonam MLA V Gandhiraj, Sriperumbudur MLA K Thennarasu, Avinashi MLA S Kamali, Rasipuram MLA D Logesh Tamilselvan, and Ottapidaram MLA P Mathan Raja became of Vijay-led TVK government.
The Opposition , with a rebel faction of MLAs led by S P Velumani and C V Shanmugam reportedly expressing interest in aligning with Vijay’s TVK.
However, on May 27, SP Velumani reaffirmed his support for AIADMK party and General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, signalling a continued backing amid speculation over internal divisions.
