The Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) is shifting towards more flexible, location-based and customer-centric retail formats, with plans to set up convenience stores– ‘Supplyco Go’ — at high-footfall locations across the State.
The first such 24-hour convenience store was opened at Vyttila Mobility Hub in 200 sq ft space. More such outlets are planned at suitable locations, including transport hubs and other areas where there is strong demand for quick and convenient access to essential products.
Jayakrishnan V.M. Managing Director, Supplyco said the new format is aimed at reaching customer segments and shopping occasions that may not be adequately served by conventional Supplyco outlets.
A major focus of the corporation’s growth strategy for the current financial year will be strengthening its own brand, Sabari. As part of this initiative, Supplyco plans to set up exclusive Sabari stalls at Pampa and Nilakkal during the upcoming Sabarimala pilgrimage season.
The stalls will showcase a range of Sabari products, including spices and ghee, providing the brand with direct access to pilgrims arriving from across the country. Supplyco expects the pilgrimage season to serve as an important platform to take Sabari products beyond Kerala and explore new markets, particularly for its spices, he said.
The corporation will also focus on improving the visibility of Sabari and other own-brand products and expanding their presence beyond its traditional retail network. New avenues for product promotion, customer engagement and market development will be explored during the year.
Supplyco will leverage its extensive retail network to introduce new shopping formats, customer-oriented initiatives and stronger brand partnerships, the Managing Director said.
The corporation recorded a turnover of ₹443.81 crore during the 35-day Onam sales period, one of its highest sales performances. The strong performance is expected to provide a foundation for accelerating its growth initiatives during the remaining months of the financial year.
For the first time, Supplyco also organised Mega Trade Fairs in Ernakulam, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram during Onam, transforming its traditional sales fairs into larger shopping destinations.
Besides Supplyco products, the fairs featured products and services from participating businesses across categories such as food, clothing, footwear and books. The initiative demonstrated the potential of Supplyco’s retail network to serve as a platform for a wider range of consumer products and brands while offering customers a more engaging shopping experience, he added.
