Rig collapse, Two sisters, whose parents hail from Kerala and settled in the United States, were found dead on a beach in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari on Thursday.
Family members in Kerala’s Kottayam identified the women as Meera Philip (35) and her younger sister Annie Philip (32). Their parents, Edatttu Veetil Philip and Mary, originally from Kidangoor, settled in the US years ago and had three daughters.
Both sisters, who are unmarried, had been touring various places in since their arrival from the US last week. They reached Kanyakumari on April 26 and checked into a local hotel.
When they failed to return to their room, hotel authorities contacted their family in Kottayam, based on a mobile number they had provided while checking in. A missing case was also registered with the local police.
The women’s family from Kottayam rushed to Kanyakumari once it was established that the sisters were missing. On Thursday, their bodies were recovered from Vavathurai beach, and taken to a local medical college hospital for post-mortem examination. Officials said a detailed probe will offer more clarity on the deaths.
