Adding to government’s push for defence exports, Hyderabad-based Sigma Advanced Systems Limited on Wednesday announced receiving an order valued at US $19.70 million, which works out to approximately ₹174 crore, from a North American customer.
The deal, with the company that serves the NATO defence ecosystem, is for the manufacture and supply of specialised ancillary subsystems for 155 mm artillery ammunition.
The order, said the Indian company in a statement, is scheduled to be executed by the second quarter of 2027, with manufacturing to be undertaken within the Sigma ecosystem.
The order marks Sigma’s fifth 155 mm engagement since May 2026, reflecting the steady expansion of its capabilities across the artillery ammunition value chain. With shell bodies, filled fuses, advanced base-bleed shell technology, course-correction fuse collaboration and now ancillary subsystems within its portfolio, Sigma is progressing towards a broader manufacturing and engineering partnership across multiple elements of the artillery round, the company said in a statement.
The company appears to have benefited from the ongoing global insecurities, especially the Russia–Ukraine war that has highlighted the scale of artillery ammunition consumption in high-intensity conflicts and the importance of sustained industrial capacity. NATO members and allied governments have responded by prioritising inventory replenishment, longer-term procurement and expansion of ammunition manufacturing capabilities.
Commenting on the order, Sunil Kalidindi, CEO, Sigma Advanced Systems Limited, said: “..Our focus is on building capabilities that allow us to participate in more technically demanding programmes and respond to customers’ evolving requirements. We see this engagement as an opportunity to strengthen our relationship with the customer and expand our contribution to the wider ammunition manufacturing ecosystem.”
The latest order is significant, believes Sigma, not only for its value, but also for the nature of the capabilities it adds to it’s portfolio.
