Sigma Advanced Systems Limited has received an export order valued at $ 102.23 million (or ₹973.64 cr) for the manufacture and supply of Base Bleed (BB) Units of 155 mm artillery ammunition for a NATO customer. The company said it has to execute the order over a period of 12 months.
The order marks a significant milestone in the company’s strategy to expand its capabilities across the 155 mm artillery ammunition manufacturing value chain, Sigma said in a statement to the media on Tuesday.
Integrated into the rear section of a shell, a Base Bleed Unit is a specialised ammunition component designed to improve the aerodynamic performance of artillery projectiles and extend their effective range. With capabilities spanning artillery shells, fuzes and Base Bleed Units, Sigma said it is strategically positioned to develop and integrate key components of complete 155 mm artillery rounds. This integrated approach is expected to reduce dependence on external suppliers, strengthen supply-chain control and enhance the company’s ability to offer comprehensive ammunition solutions, as per the company.
Sunil Kalidindi, CEO and Executive Director, Sigma, said: “In defence manufacturing, we build customer confidence through consistent execution, reliable delivery, and the ability to scale. The fact that customers continue to place repeat orders with us reflects the trust we have earned by meeting our commitments on previous programmes.”
“It also demonstrates that customers view Sigma as a dependable manufacturing partner, rather than an execution risk.. This order further reinforces our commitment to vertical integration, indigenous manufacturing, and delivering comprehensive artillery ammunition solutions for domestic and international markets,” he added.
The company had got previous orders as well for supplying components of 155 mm artillery ammunition for the North American market serving the NATO ecosystem. Among them was that it got one of the largest export order around three months ago to manufacture and export of 147,000 units of 155mm base bleed artillery shell bodies at a cost of close to Rs 1000 crore.
