Comedian Zakir Khan recently took the stage as host at a Bollywood awards show, where his monologue touched upon the current mood in the film industry. Adding his signature humour, he referenced the success of Dhurandhar and hinted that not everyone was entirely pleased with its impact. While many in the audience took it as a playful dig, the remark didn’t sit well with a section of the industry.
The awards night has since come under scrutiny for multiple controversial remarks made by its hosts. In another instance, a joke targeting Rajpal Yadav referenced his financial case, with the line, “Dollar ka rate kitna bhi upar neeche ho jaaye apko paise utne hi vapas lautaane hain (No matter how much the dollar rate fluctuates, you have to return the same amount of money)”. The comment alluded to his cheque-bounce case, in which the Delhi High Court had questioned him over loan repayment, noting that he had been given several opportunities to comply but failed to do so.
