Italian fashion retailer, OVS believes India could be a key international market as it plans to scale up its retail footprint in the country. The brand which re-entered India in 2025, is looking to open 11 stores by 2028. On Friday, the company opened its largest store in India in Mumbai, its third store.
Sundeep Chugh, Managing Director, OVS India told businessline, “India is a market that is poised for strong growth from a long term perspective. Our intent is to make India among the top international markets for the company in the span of the next 5-7 years. We aim to offer Italian fashion, which has a unique proposition, in its original avatar at a democratic pricing.”
OVS, operates over 2,600 stores in Italy and international markets offering womenswear, menswear and kidswear.
Talking about plans for retail expansion, Chugh said the company is focusing on opening larger format stores to offer “flagship-style retail experience” that feature the company’s diverse portfolio. “We will focus on retail footprint expansion in different phases. In the first phase, we are looking at opening 11 stores by the end of 2028. We now have three stores and plan to add four additional stores by the end of 2027 and take it up to 11 stores by 2028. While the key focus will be metros and tier-1 markets, we will also look at opening stores in some tier-2 markets in the first phase,” he added.
The company’s expansion roadmap includes key markets such as Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad among others. It will also have an online presence next year through its own brand site.
“Once we have established our stores in the first phase, we will focus on gaining learnings. In the next phase of expansion, our ambition is to have 25-40 stores over the next 5-7 years,” Chugh said.
Asked about sourcing plans, “ The sourcing base in India already contributes a share of 15 per cent to global production and has been in existence for many years.”
