The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed Everest Food Products to recall some batches of its pre-packed cumin powder from the market after sample tests found it unsafe for consumption.
In a social media post, the food safety authority said that a regulatory sample of “Pre-packed Cumin Powder” was drawn from the premises of Goa-based Riverside Resorts & Holiday Homes.
“The Food Analyst’s report found pesticide residues of Azoxystrobin and Thiamethoxam at levels exceeding the prescribed maximum limits. The analyst declared the sample ‘unsafe’ under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006,” it noted
It added that Everest Food Products was provided an opportunity to appeal against report, following which the sample was referred to the referral food laboratory, which confirmed that the sample was unsafe.
“The entire implicated batch of ‘Pre-packed Cumin Powder’ (Batch No. E080668761) was directed to be recalled immediately from the market,” the food safety regulator added.
The company was also directed to maintain complete records of the recalled product and submit the prescribed recall information and status reports within the stipulated timelines.
FSSAI also directed the food business operator (FBO) to undertake corrective measures to prevent recurrence of the incident and submit a report upon completion of the recall.
Meanwhile, the regulator said that it has suspended the licence of Creative Bakers and Confectioners due to severe hygiene deficiencies.
