Noida-based AI-native engineering services provider, Coforge has said that it has appointed Akhil Gupta as a Non-Executive Independent Director, effective Thursday.
The Board has also appointed Gupta as the Chairperson of the company. His appointment will be for a period of five years, the company said in a filing to stock exchanges.
Gupta is the former Vice Chairman of Bharti Enterprises and played a pivotal role in Bharti’s growth right since inception. He is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of 360 ONE WAM and Bharti Life Insurance, and also a member of the Board of Zepto, Snapdeal, Eutelsat Communications and Lodha Developers.
“We ran a very rigorous and intense global search process in partnership with Egon Zehnder with a focus on finding a candidate with the highest governance experience, professional expertise, and strategic perspectives – criteria that I had shared earlier at our investor meeting. A starting list of 60 exceptional candidates was whittled down over time and Akhil emerged as the unanimous choice of all members of the NRC and the Board,” Vivek Sharma, Non-Executive Director and interim Chairperson, Coforge, said.
Gupta is a Chartered Accountant with over 40 years of professional experience. He has also completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School in the year 2002.
He is also the President of TSSC (Telecom Sector Skill Council), Ex-Chairman of DIPA (Digital Infrastructure Providers Association), member of CII National Committee on Telecom & Broadband, member of CII Task Force on Insolvency and Bankruptcy and has been a member of the Advisory Committee on Service Providers of Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India and Sub Committee of Insolvency Law Committee, Government of India.
“As our industry, in turn, navigates the AI-led era and as Coforge pivots towards making the promise of AI real for enterprises, we welcome Gupta as he steps onto the Board. We are excited at the immense opportunities ahead of us and thrilled to have a person of his calibre and governance experience join us as the Chairperson of the Board,” Sudhir Singh, CEO and Executive Director, Coforge, said.
