Coffee Day Enterprises Ltd (CDEL), the parent company of Cafe Coffee Day, on Thursday said it has settled a ₹25-crore loan with Kemfin Services via one-time settlement.
“The company has entered into a Settlement Agreement pursuant to which an amount of ₹25 crore has been paid towards the full and final settlement of all outstanding dues payable by the company,” CDEL said in a filing.
The settlement is part of the debt reduction efforts being undertaken by CDEL, which has been working to reduce its liabilities through asset monetisation, settlements with lenders and repayment of borrowings following the financial challenges faced by the group in recent years.
According to the company’s annual reports, Kemfin was among the lenders to whom the company owed money, with the borrowing carrying interest obligations and having been subject to repayment extensions in the past.
Kemfin, a Bengaluru-based investment and finance company, had extended a loan of ₹25 crore to CDEL.
According to reports, the borrowing was unsecured but carried the personal guarantee of late founder VG Siddhartha. The loan carried an interest rate of 15 per cent per annum, with a penal rate of 24 per cent in case of delays.
