The quieter, but equally consequential change within Ashok Leyland is the deepening integration of Artificial Intelligence into its operations and products. The company’s Uptime Solution Centre, which uses live diagnostics and predictive maintenance algorithms to monitor over 170,000 connected vehicles in the field, has matured into a sophisticated operation that measurably improves fleet availability for our customers.
The connected vehicle data we gather — processing close to a terabyte of data every day across more than 25 million kilometres of tracked vehicle operation — feeds directly into product development, creating a closed loop between what operators experience on the road and what our engineers design at the drawing board, said Dheeraj Hinduja, Chairman, Ashok Leyland, in the company’s FY26 annual report.
Hinduja said the company is deploying AI across manufacturing quality control, supply chain optimisation, and after-sales response, achieving a fourfold reduction in processing costs in certain workflows and meaningfully faster response times across our service network.
Electrification is gaining traction in buses and urban logistics, while alternative fuels such as LNG and hydrogen are becoming more relevant for long-haul applications. Artificial Intelligence is no longer an experimental technology in our sector — it has become a foundational operating tool, he said.
We believe that the manufacturers who embed AI most deeply into both their products and their operations will hold a durable competitive advantage, he said.
