ACC, an Adani Group company, reported a 92 per cent fall in its September quarter net profit to ₹93 crore from the ₹1,119 crore it reported in the year-ago period, on higher costs and lower sales.
The year-ago profit included an income-tax provision reversal of ₹659 crore, said the company.
Revenue from operations was down 5 per cent to ₹5,666 crore (₹5,969 crore). Overall expenses rose to ₹ 5,602 crore (₹5,457 crore), and EBITDA more than halved to ₹401 crore (₹846 crore). The share of green power usage rose to 34 per cent y-o-y, up from 30 per cent last year.
Sales volume was down to 9.7 million tonnes (10 mt) due to the master supply agreement (MSA) with its parent, Ambuja Cements. Realisation per tonne was down at ₹414 (₹849).
Vinod Bahety, Whole-Time Director and CEO, ACC, said the reported numbers were not directly comparable because of the impact of the MSA, and that underlying business momentum remains encouraging, supported by trade partners. Growth remains trade-led, in line with the strategy, he said, adding that the company continues to strengthen the institutional business through a comprehensive solutions approach with a focus on value and profitability.
Industry demand remains supportive and is expected to strengthen post-monsoon, aided by housing, infrastructure, and capital expenditure, he said, adding that improving pricing momentum should moderate the impact of elevated fuel and energy costs.
During the quarter, the company commissioned an additional 3.4 mtpa of cement capacity at Salai Banwa and Kalamboli to strengthen its ability to serve key markets and support future growth.
The September quarter for the cement industry was marked by geopolitical uncertainties, monsoon impacts, seasonal shutdowns, and elevated energy costs amid global uncertainty and constraints on domestic coal availability. However, the medium-term demand outlook continues to be supported by infrastructure investment, urbanisation, rural housing and industrial activity, said ACC.
The Centre has increased capex by 18 per cent year-on-year to ₹5.1 lakh crore during April–August this year against ₹4.3 lakh crore in the same period last year.
ACC continues to focus on operational efficiency, premiumisation, logistics optimisation and disciplined capital allocation. Its improving business mix, expanding Ready-Mix Concrete network, premium and sustainable product portfolio, and strong balance sheet provide the foundation for growth, it said.
The proposed merger with Ambuja Cements is expected to enable closer coordination across the combined manufacturing, logistics, and market network, ACC said.
Meanwhile, ABB has signed a multi-year ABB Motion OneCare service agreement with ACC to improve the operational reliability of its Jamul cement plant in Chhattisgarh. The comprehensive maintenance framework, shaped around ACC’s needs, encompasses scheduled reconditioning, digital monitoring and energy appraisals, with the latter extending the program’s scope from restoration into ongoing performance enhancement.
