Suzlon Energy is targeting 10 GW of wind energy business in Karnataka and plans to develop two wind parks in the State, with a combined capacity to accommodate 2.2 GW of projects over the next two to three years, Dinesh Jagdale, President – Corporate Affairs and Retail Business, Suzlon, said.
Speaking at a panel discussion on renewable energy prospects in Karnataka at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit (BRE Summit) 2026, Jagdale said the parks would be located in Vijayapura (Bijapur) and Raichur districts. They would allow wind developers to adopt a “plug and play” approach, with the sites and supporting development work taken care of, enabling developers to focus on setting up their projects.
The two parks are only the beginning of Suzlon’s plans for the State, Jagdale indicated, adding that the company was also looking to establish a blade manufacturing plant in Karnataka. The proposed facility would have the capacity to manufacture blades for wind turbines totalling 2 GW. It would be Suzlon’s 17th blade manufacturing facility, in keeping with the company’s policy of distributing blade production across locations rather than concentrating it in a few large plants.
A key element of the proposed wind-park offering is Suzlon’s Development Company (DevCo) model. Through a separate company, Suzlon undertakes the development work, including preparing the site and taking care of the associated project-development requirements, so that wind developers can step in and set up their projects on a plug-and-play basis. The model is intended to reduce the development burden and execution time for project developers.
On the policy environment, Jagdale said incentives were welcome, adding that they would support the development of the wind energy sector.
