Storage battery major Exide Industries on Wednesday reported around 75 per cent year-on-year growth in its standalone net profit to ₹386.45 crore for the second quarter this fiscal, backed by around 20 per cent y-o-y increase in its revenue from operations during the period.
The Kolkata-based company had posted a net profit of ₹220.74 crore for the second quarter last fiscal. Its revenue from operations for Q2FY27 grew to ₹5,026.14 crore from ₹4,178.29 crore for Q2FY26, according to a stock exchange filing.
Ebitda during the period under review witnessed a 53.6 per cent growth y-o-y at ₹606 crore. The Ebitda margin for Q2FY27 stood at 12.1 per cent, compared to 9.4 per cent for Q2FY26.
The company, in a statement, said the calibrated price increase, volume growth and cost optimisation initiatives enabled EBITDA margin expansion by 270 basis points y-o-y during the second quarter this fiscal.
During the quarter, total expenses saw a 15.88 per cent y-o-y increase at ₹4,546.26 crore as against ₹3,923.14 crore in the corresponding period a year ago. “On a Y-o-Y basis, input costs remained elevated due to prolonged geopolitical challenges. On a Q-o-Q basis, full benefit of softer Lead LME and antimony prices could not be realised due to a weaker rupee,” the company said.
Exide Industries said the growth momentum remained broad-based in Q2FY2, with double-digit growth across key businesses. Automotive OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) business delivered over 25 per cent y-o-y growth for the fourth consecutive quarter, with key new launches. The two-wheeler and four-wheeler replacement business delivered double-digit growth for the fourth consecutive quarter, driven by steady aftermarket demand.
“Exports business grew over 20 per cent y-o-y for the second consecutive quarter, on a low base. The company signed a long-term strategic cooperation agreement with ExCom Energy Solutions GmbH, Germany, to grow its industrial battery and energy storage business across the European Economic Area,” it said in the statement.
Exide Energy Solutions (EESL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Exide Industries, completed the commissioning of a 6 GWh of lithium-ion cell gigafactory in Bengaluru on September 23.
