Hindustan Zinc has launched two specialised zinc alloys, VedAZ and VedAyush, for the galvanising industry as it looks to expand its value-added product portfolio and tap growing demand from infrastructure, automotive and manufacturing sectors.
The new products are designed to improve coating consistency, enhance corrosion protection and increase manufacturing efficiency. The launch assumes significance as corrosion-related losses in India are estimated at around 4.3 per cent of GDP annually.
VedAZ, a zinc-aluminium master alloy, is designed to improve control over aluminium levels in galvanising baths, helping manufacturers achieve stable bath chemistry, uniform coating thickness and better surface finish. Its composition is also expected to reduce dross formation and zinc losses, improving material utilisation and operational efficiency.
VedAyush, a zinc-aluminium-magnesium alloy, is engineered to enhance corrosion resistance, coating adhesion and durability, particularly in challenging environments such as coastal areas, high-humidity locations and industrial settings.
Its applications include infrastructure, automotive components, consumer appliances and power transmission systems.
Amarendu Prakash, CEO and Whole-time Director, Hindustan Zinc said there are significant scope to grow the company’s value-added zinc business across infrastructure, automotive, engineering and consumer products. Customers need specialised grades tailored to their manufacturing processes and performance requirements, he said.
The company will leverage its integrated operations and alloy manufacturing capabilities to develop customised products and strengthen engagement with downstream customers.
Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Hindustan Zinc Alloys, the company operates a 30,000-tonne-per-annum zinc alloy melting and casting facility at Rajpura Dariba in Rajasthan.
Its existing specialised portfolio includes zinc die-casting grades HZDA-3 and HZDA-5, used in automotive, electrical, industrial hardware and consumer applications. Both grades have received Bureau of Indian Standards certification.
The latest launches are part of Hindustan Zinc’s strategy to increase the contribution of value-added products and move up the zinc value chain.
