In a new development to the dispute in the Venu Srinivasan family, industrialists Venu Srinivasan and his daughter Lakshmi Venu have filed caveats against one another, in a bid to ensure that both sides get an opportunity to be heard if the dispute takes a legal turn.
As per businessline’s review of caveat filings in Chennai, Venu Srinivasan and VS Trust (Represented by Trustee Venu Srinivasan) filed two caveats on Lakshmi Venu, on October 12, one each in different civil courts. Mallika is named as an additional respondent in both caveats.
Filings also show that Lakshmi Venu filed counter caveats against Venu Srinivasan on the same date, following the first set of caveats.
A caveat is a preventive filing under the Code of Civil Procedure (CPC) to ensure that no order or judgment is passed against the filer without first hearing their side.
Legal experts noted that caveats are typically a pre-emptive measure by the filer wherein if they assume that a specific party could take a legal step against them, they tell the Court that it can’t pass an order without hearing them.
Venu Srinivasan did not respond to businessline’s queries on the matter.
In a statement, Mallika Srinivasan and her daughter Lakshmi Venu reiterated their original position to resolve the family’s dispute over the division of business interests amicably through dialogue.

Sources in the know add that the duo continue to push for discussion and internal settlement on the dispute and there is no indication of a legal step taken by Lakshmi Venu in the matter.
The developments relate to a dispute in the family wherein Lakshmi Venu is pushing for a formal settlement of business interests. The proposal, however, has reportedly hit an impasse, with Venu Srinivasan and his son Sudarshan Venu maintaining that a family settlement was already reached through a 2024 MoU.
