Sunstream Green Energy plans to invest ₹1,500 crore in renewable energy projects in Chhattisgarh, with a focus on integrating battery energy storage systems (BESS) to provide more flexible and dispatchable renewable power.
The investment proposal was announced at the inaugural Singapore-India Network for Growth (SING) Forum 2026, organised by the Singapore Business Federation in Singapore. The non-binding understanding was formalised in the presence of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and senior State officials.
The proposed investment is backed by Singapore-based Lighthouse Trust Pte Ltd, Sunstream’s anchor investor and a source of institutional capital for its renewable energy platform in India.
Sunstream currently has 850 MW of solar projects either commissioned or under construction in various states, including 100 MW at Raighar, Chhattisgarh. The company has also been engaging with the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board, the State distribution company and the State transmission utility on renewable energy development and grid integration.
The company’s Chief Operating Officer, Dilip Kumar, told businessline that Chhattisgarh, with its existing infrastructure and renewable energy potential, offered a “strong opportunity” to build renewable projects at scale. “We also see an opportunity to go beyond conventional solar and work with the state on BESS and FDRE solutions,” Kumar said.
The company has said that it intends to work with the State on Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) solutions, combining renewable generation with battery storage. Such projects can help address the intermittency of solar and wind generation by allowing electricity to be delivered when required rather than only when renewable resources are available.
The proposal comes as Chhattisgarh seeks to attract investments in both clean energy and energy-intensive new industries. The State received total investment commitments of ₹43,250 crore at the SING Forum, including ₹41,750 crore proposed by Singapore-based Energy Capital Global for a 100-MW AI-ready data-centre campus.
