Sanjay Kumar, Director (Marketing) at state-run GAIL India, will take over as the Managing Director and CEO of India’s largest LNG importer Petronet LNG from May 13, 2027.
“It is hereby informed that the board, in its meeting held on October 2, has approved the appointment of Sanjay Kumar, Director (Marketing) GAIL (India) as Managing Director & CEO of the company with effect from the date of vacancy–May 13, 2027 on the recommendation of Nomination and Remuneration Committee of the Board,” Petronet LNG said in a BSE filing.
The detailed disclosure will be sent to the stock exchanges once Kumar assumes the charge as Managing Director & CEO, it added.
Kumar will replace Akshay Kumar Singh, who retires on May 12 next year. Singh joined the top post at Petronet in February 2021. His tenure was extended by the Board for roughly 15 months from February 1, 2026 to May 12, 2025 as a one-off final extension.
Prior to this, Singh served as Director (Pipelines) at state-run Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL). He is known for executing challenging, complex and large-sized cross-country pipeline networks of national importance.
Sanjay Kumar joined GAIL (India) as Director (Marketing) in June 2023. Prior to that he was serving as the Managing Director of state-run Indraprastha Gas (IGL), India’s largest CNG distribution company, since April 2022.
Prior to his role as MD, IGL, he was also GAIL’s nominee Director on the Boards of Maharashtra Natural Gas (MNGL) and GAIL Global (Singapore) Pte.
IOCL, GAIL (India), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation hold 12.5 per cent stake each in Petronet LNG.
