Describing Maharashtra as India’s “launchpad” for economic growth, Pranav Adani, Director of Adani Enterprises, said projects worth ₹2.6 lakh crore — more than 43% of the Adani Group’s over ₹6 lakh crore investment blueprint for the state — are already completed or under execution.
The investment blueprint spans sectors including energy, aviation and aero-districts, urban regeneration, data centres and coal gasification, Adani said at the launch of Invest Maharashtra in Mumbai on Friday. “At the World Economic Forum in Davos and through state partnerships, the Adani Group has committed to an investment blueprint exceeding six lakh crore rupees across critical and upcoming sectors,” Adani said. “Projects worth 2.6 lakh crore rupees are already completed or under execution,” he added.
The scale of the commitment comes as Maharashtra targets becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2030, with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region expected to play a central role in that expansion. Describing Maharashtra as a key driver of India’s economic growth, Adani said, “If India is the rocket, Maharashtra is the launchpad. And if Maharashtra is the launchpad, then Mumbai – Aamchi Mumbai – is its financial fuel! It is where the money moves.”
He said the launch of Invest Maharashtra would provide a mechanism to convert investor interest into projects on the ground. “With the launch of ‘Invest Maharashtra’, the state is establishing a robust mechanism to convert investor intent into relentless on-ground execution,” Adani said.
The Adani Group’s existing footprint in Maharashtra spans aviation, power and urban redevelopment. At Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, the group has been managing and upgrading the airport, while its greenfield Navi Mumbai International Airport is being developed as a second aviation gateway for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Adani said Navi Mumbai International Airport is eventually designed to handle more than 90 million passengers annually. The group is also developing integrated airport business and hospitality districts around the two airports, he said. In Mumbai’s power sector, Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd supplies more than three million homes and establishments, according to Adani. More than 60% of its power supply is sourced from renewable energy, he said. The group is also developing a 1,000 MW high-voltage direct-current transmission link to bring power into Mumbai, alongside pumped-storage hydro projects in Maharashtra aimed at providing round-the-clock green power.
Another major component of the group’s Maharashtra plans is the Dharavi Redevelopment Project. Adani said the project is intended to create modern housing before relocation, formalise and safeguard micro-enterprises and integrate the redevelopment with Mumbai’s wider urban infrastructure. He described the project as part of the group’s contribution to “Mumbai 3.0”—a more connected and balanced metropolitan region.
