The body of an unidentified woman, believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, was recovered late Saturday night from a water harvesting pipe at the under-construction terminal building of Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna.
According to police, the discovery was made after construction engineers noticed that the water flow was erratic in one of the newly-fitted pipes and could not be corrected despite repeated attempts.
Secretariat SDPO 1 Anu Kumari said that the Airport police station was alerted at approximately 7:10 pm Saturday.
“A police team reached the site and after cutting open the pipe found the body of the woman,” she said.
Authorities are now trying to identify the woman, suspected to be a daily wage labourer.
“We are questioning the agencies to determine her identity,” the SDPO said.
According to police sources, investigators have contacted three contractor agencies currently employing female workers at the site and have interviewed all female workers but have yet to find out who the victim is.
The victim, police say, also bore “visible injury marks”. Her body has been sent to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna, for post-mortem examination, they said, adding that investigation is ongoing.
