The Japanese box office is turning out to be a gold digger for some Telugu films. After the emergence of pan-India films and the popularity of Rajamouli’s movies, the Japanese box office is receptive to content from Telugu cinema. The last Indian film that performed extremely well in Japan is RRR. Now, Kalki is hitting the screens in the country to test its luck.
Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas in the lead role, is currently in cinemas across Japan. The film was released on a large number of screens. The team promoted the film exceptionally well and expected big numbers at the ticket windows.
Earlier, RRR successfully completed 200 days of theatrical run and registered a revenue of more than 410 million yen. The film was released in 209 screens and 31 Imax screens across 44 cities and prefectures in Japan. RRR is the country’s highest-grossing Indian film. Now, Kalki will have the opportunity to cross the numbers of RRR and emerge as the biggest film.
Prabhas enjoys big stardom across the world, and he already has an established fandom in Japan, thanks to the success of the Baahubali franchise. Prabhas was supposed to promote Kalki in Japan but he could not do it because of his injury. However, the advance sales for the film in Japan turned out satisfactory and the distributors are expecting that Kalki will easily surpass RRR.
Vyjayanthi Movies produced Kalki 2898 AD. Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, Rajendra Prasad and others are a part of the film. The movie was released in India and overseas on 27th June, 2024.
