“Why not a Kannada title for your film?” Journalist asks Sudeep

Most Kannada people and the media in Karnataka are very particular about using the language for communication. They give less importance to dubbing films, but they insist on using the language in writing and speech. A journalist asked Kiccha Sudeep, who is promoting his next film, Max, why his film was given an English title.

During the promotions, Sudeep interacted with the media. During the interaction, a journalist asked, “Why not use a Kannada title for your film instead of an English title?”

Then, Sudeep replied, “Why are the names of all news channels here in English, while the viewers and the interviewee myself are Kannadiga? You are a Kannadiga, and I am a Kannadiga.”

Sudeep also went on to add that most of the kids study in English medium. “If you want an apple, how are you going to ask for it in Kannada?” he questioned.

The media did not have an answer to Sudeep’s question, and his reaction was perfectly correct. The video is currently going viral on social media.

Reporter : Why English title for your movie? Why not Kannada? #Sudeep : “Why r names of all news channels here in English, while the viewers and the interviewee myself is a Kannadiga?

We’re in Karnataka, having English medium schools and the kids going there are Kannadigas!… pic.twitter.com/DkFKhzqtch

Often times, the media unnecessarily rubs Kannada language on people which is fundamentally not a right thing to do. We have seen a lot of auto drivers and cab drivers picking fight with non-Kannadigas to speak in Kannada which is practically not possible for everyone.

All they must ensure is that their language is being respected properly while also allowing other languages to flow freely.
