Matthew McConaughey, a diehard Longhorns fan, is a regular at all Texas football games, where he’s frequently recorded by cameras. On Friday, he sat on the Texas sidelines in a leather jacket and cowboy hat during Friday’s devastating 28-14 Cotton Bowl loss to Ohio State of the US.
As soon as Texas lost, Matthew McConaughey was under attack by fans. They continually roasted Texas after an abysmal second half, and fourth quarter. However, his appearance gained much attention, for better or for worse.
Fans started discussing and expressing concern over Matthew McConaughey’s whereabouts and emotional state. Many fans humorously or genuinely suggested checking on him, implying that the outcome of the game might have left him disappointed or affected — arising out of his reaction to the game’s events.
‘Can someone let him know that he’s not on the team,’ one fan wrote.

Another fan made a joke about Texas football regarding what McConaughey was wearing to the game. “To move on from this, Texas will have to burn Matthew McConaughey’s leather jacket.”

McConaughey was quick to respond to this souring of netizens on him. ‘Hell of a fight tonight men of @TexasLonghorns football,’ he wrote on X. ‘After the pain subsides be sure and love on each other and yourselves for so much that you did so well so much of this year. It was a season to be proud of. Until forever.’

McConaughey attended the game with his wife Camila and their children Levi, Vida and Livingston. However, it seemed as though his family took seats in the stands for the game as he continued to pace around the sidelines.
