Well, amid all this there was an incident once when Shah Rukh Khan jokingly asked Gauri to wear a burqa and read namaaz. Yes, you read that right! told Farida Jalal in an old interview, ‘On our reception day, they (Gauri’s family) were all talking in Punjabi. So, I looked at them and said, ‘Gauri, put on your burqa, and let’s read the namaaz now.’ The whole family stared at us, wondering if I had changed her religion. So I told them, ‘From now on, she will wear a burqa all the time, she won’t ever leave the house, and her name will be changed to Ayesha Khan’.
Shah Rukh Khan said that Gauri’s entire family was shocked and furious listening to him. He soon realized that the situation might go out of hand and said that he was joking.
