Two Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) men posted at the Kochi international airport were arrested Thursday on charges of murdering a motorist in a road rage incident the night before.
According to the police, the victim was identified as Ivin Jijo, a 25-year-old native of Ankamali in Ernakulam who worked as a chef with a hotel. On Wednesday night, the suspects, Inspector Vinay Kumar and Constable Mohanan – both from Bihar – the suspects’ car brushed the victim’s while trying to overtake it at Nayathode near the Kochi airport, sparking an argument.
Police claimed that soon, the suspects tried to get into their car and drive away but Ivin stood in front to stop them. The men then allegedly rammed into him, with a video of the incident allegedly showing Ivin clutching onto the car’s bonnet and crying out in pain.
According to the FIR registered at Kochi airport police station, Ivin was thus dragged for nearly a kilometre before the occupants suddenly applied brakes, making Ivin fall. It was then that the duo allegedly ran him over.
The police claim that the suspects were allegedly manhandled by some locals who witnessed the incident. The two have been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 118 (1) (causing dangerous hurt) 103 (1) (murder) and 3 (5) (act for a common intention).
