US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir on June 18, as reported by Bloomberg.
Notably, this will be Munir’s first official visit to the US. The meeting will be held in the White House Cabinet Room. Munir is also scheduled to hold meetings with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the report said.
This development comes days after Commander of the United States Central Command (Centcom), General Michael Kurilla, lauded “phenomenal partner” Pakistan for hunting the Islamic State (Khorasan) terrorists.
This meeting also comes weeks after tension rose between India and Pakistan after New Delhi launched Military Operation named Operation Sindoor in retaliation for the killing of 26 civilians in Kashmir on April 22 by Pakistan-backed terrorists.
Munir, currently on a trip to the US, faced protests by reported members of the Pakistani diaspora. The protester shouted slogans, calling him a ‘mass murderer’. The protester also chanted slogans like ‘Shame on You’, ‘Asim Munir, you are a coward’ and ‘Islamabad Ka Qatil’ against him.
Videos of the protest against Munir have surfaced on social media.
Nazia Imtiaz Hussain, a X user, sharing a video of the protest, said that they were protesting against “criminal dictator of Pakistan” and criticised those who “showed up in support of fascism.”
“We’re here to protest the criminal dictator of Pakistan. Shame on every bootlicker who showed up in support of fascism–you didn’t just betray democracy; you spit on the suffering of millions,” Hussain said.
