The thing about making movies is, you don’t know which one will resonate with the audience and which one will be rejected. Every movie is made with love and passion, but some filmmakers take the risk of spending way too much, with the hope that the final result will be better and the audience will understand their perception. During the 90s, one such movie was made on a massive budget, but it flopped so badly that the makers went bankrupt.
The movie we are talking about is . It stars and in the lead roles. The audience loved their pairing in the 1987 movie Mr. India. Hence, Boney Kapoor thought of casting them again in this 1993 movie, which neither received good reviews nor did it earn well at the box office. When the movie was being made, it was known that it was the most expensive film of that time. Initially, Shekhar Kapoor was charged with directing it, but he left the movie midway. He realised that the movie wouldn’t work.
Eventually, hired Satish Kaushik as the director. During that time, Anil Kapoor signed movies back to back so that the budget of Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja could be managed. It took six years for Sridevi and Anil’s movie to be made. The story was written by Javed Akhtar and had a cameo by Jackie Shroff. As per the entertainment news reports, the idea of having Jackie do a special appearance wasn’t a good idea, as the audience was in awe of his pairing with Anil. Hence, the makers missed out on a big opportunity.
Eventually, after a delay, the movie was finally released and the worst thing happened. Sridevi’s movie flopped badly at the box office and it left Boney Kapoor bankrupt. To recover the debt, the late actress sold off a large chunk of her properties. The moment Bobby was back on his feet, he delivered some amazing movies after that.
