Asit Modi’s show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has served many iconic dialogues. The show that has Dilip Joshi essaying the character of Jethalal has been tickling the funny bones of the masses for ages. From his dialogue delivery to his antics, fans love him and how. Dayaben played by Disha Vakani too left a major impact; making the character the most loved one. It is Jethalal and Dayaben’s combination that made this show a massive hit. One of the most famous lines from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah that went viral is ‘Ae pagal auraat’. Jethalal’s line turned into a meme and is still popular. But did you know that Dilip Joshi was later asked to not use the line ever in the show?
In a podcast with Sorabh Pant, made this big revelation. He mentioned that the line wasn’t in the script. However, he improvised looking at Dayaben’s actions. However, later he was asked to not use the line again as there was an objection from women group. He said, “Yeh jo ‘paagal aurat’ wala tha, woh maine improvise kiya. On set koi aise situation aayi thi, the way Daya reacted, toh scene karte karte mere mooh se nikal gaya (I improvised the ‘paagal aurat’ line. There was a situation on the set and the way Dayaben reacted, it slipped out of my mouth while doing the scene).” He further added, “Baad mein, uspe kuch women’s lib ya koi movement tha, mujhe bataya gaya, ‘Aage se, aap yeh nahi bolenge’ (later, there was some women’s group opposed to the dialogue and I was told never to repeat it again).”
Post marriage and first pregnancy, Disha Vakani quit Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. Since then, the makers have been trying to find her replacement. It has been years now that Dayaben has not returned to the show. Despite her absence, the show is performing well on the TRP chart.
