Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is the longest running comedy TV show. It has got all the love and appreciation from the audience. The show has been running since 2008 and even today, it has a huge and a crazy fan following. The TRPs of the show are also great. Every character and ever dialogue from the show is quite famous. Not just that, even the title song of the show has been very popular. We are sure many of us also have it by heart, don’t we?

However, we have seen that since 2017, Disha Vakani has been on a maternity leave. She did not return and a lot has been said about it. It is being reported that she is not returning as Dayaben and even producer Asit Kumarr Modi has been trying convince her to be back. He has started auditioning for the role of Daya but is still hoping that Disha changes her mind.

Now, Asit Kumarr Modi has opened up about Disha’s audition and initial days as Dayaben. He spoke to Indian Express and said that Disha is a fine actor and the instructions for Daya were simple like she is innocent, caring, and rooted in her family. He explained Disha that Daya’s world revolves around her family only and Daya’s popular line ‘Hey Ma, Mataji!’ is very common among Gujaratis.

He further explained that the way Daya calls’s Jethalal from the balcony every time he leaves is an idea that came from his own life. He said that his mother used to call his father from balcony whenever he left for work. He also shared that Daya’s iconic garba style was not a part of the original script and it just happened while shooting. He revealed that Daya’s Garba style was pure Disha’s improvisation which became a fan-favourite and a defining trait. This is a big story in and .

Further, Asit Kumarr Modi opened up about the casting of and how Dilip Joshi’s theatre experience helped them. He said, “We did several workshops. Most actors were new to long-format TV. Dilip Joshi had some experience in Gujarati theatre, and that helped. He was great at improvisation, which added depth to his character. But the rest were fresh faces. What I looked for most was a natural innocence.”
