The Supreme Court of India on Thursday scheduled to hear petitions related to the 1991 law on places of worship. The law prohibits the conversion of any place of worship, ensuring that the religious character of such sites remains as it was on August 15, 1947.
The bench hearing the matter includes Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna and Justices PV Sanjay Kumar and KV Viswanathan.
During today’s proceedings, the Supreme Court asked the Centre to reply to cross-pleas challenging or seeking the implementation of the statute.
