Star Tamil director Lokesh Kanagaraj, who shot to fame with his Lokesh Cinematic Universe, is now coming up with his new film “Coolie.” Starring Superstar Rajinikanth in the lead role, this movie is slated for a worldwide release on August 14. Rumours say that even this movie will be a part of the LCU.
Meanwhile, Lokesh revealed that his next movie will be Kaithi 2, and then, he will direct Vikram 2. He also went on to add that he will then work on Leo 2, without the Leo Das character, as Thalapathy Vijay will soon leave films to dedicate his time completely to politics. Looking at his upcoming films, Lokesh seems to be focusing only on sequels and not original films, which is disappointing for a few people who felt that a talented filmmaker is not using his potential by getting stuck in a loop.
Kaithi, the first film of the LCU, remains Lokesh’s best outing, according to many. Vikram was good too, but Leo couldn’t reach the level of its predecessors in terms of content and storytelling. Leo’s inclusion in the LCU also seems forced without any organic connection. Now, we have to see how Lokesh manages to connect the dots with Kaithi 2, Vikram 2, and Leo 2.
On the other hand, he also said that there will be a standalone film for Rolex, starring Suriya in the lead role. He said that discussions are going on with Suriya and the film may also shape up in the future. On the whole, it looks like Lokesh seems to be focusing only on spinoffs and sequels for now, without plans of making any original content outside LCU.
