In an unfortunate update, renowned Indian actor and director Manoj Kumar passed away in Mumbai today. Lovingly known as Bharat Kumar, the veteran actor died at the age of 87 at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. The actor had given many hits in his career, mainly pertaining to patriotic themes. Some of his amazing works include Gumnaam, Upkar, Kranti, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan and many more.

A few months ago, Salman Khan revealed that Manoj Kumar wanted to take away the writing credits of the Kranti movie from Salim Javed and Javed Akhtar. The revelation was made during the Q&A for the documentary Angry Young Men.

As reported by Hindustan Times, Farhan Akhtar was talking about Salim-Javed movies and revealed that he saw Kranti 300 times. That’s when the Sikandar star revealed, “So, I just want an interview with Mr Manoj Kumar. He is taking away the credit from Salim-Javed and saying he has written it.” To this, Farhan reacted, “Did he? Then we will have a separate documentary for Manoj Ji.”

Javed Akhtar also reacted to Salman Khan’s statement and said, “I think it’s very, very honest of him that he has made this confession.” Salman then took a satirical dig and stated, “It’s a fact. He says that I used to write and read it to them. But he did write it.”

Meanwhile, Kranti is a 1981 historical drama which was directed by Manoj Kumar. Along with him, the film also starred Dilip Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, Hema Malini, and Parveen Babi. It was one of the most expensive movies of that time and also became the highest-grossing Indian film of the 1980s.
