Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Saturday thanked the US leadership for arranging peace and hoped that it would mark a new beginning for the resolution of issues in the region.
Sharif took to social media to react to the . “We thank President Trump for his leadership and proactive role for peace in the region. Pakistan appreciates the United States for facilitating this outcome, which we have accepted in the interest of regional peace and stability,” he said in a post on X.
He also thanked US “Vice President J D Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for their valuable contributions for peace in South Asia”. He also stated that it would mark a new phase in the region.
“Pakistan believes this marks a new beginning in the resolution of issues that have plagued the region and prevented its journey toward peace, prosperity and stability,” he said.
Earlier, Shehbaz’s elder brother and former three-time premier said Pakistan was a “peace-loving” country, but also “knows how to defend itself”.
According to the Pakistan Foreign Office, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi said his country would continue to stand by Pakistan in upholding its “sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national independence”.
It said Wang made these comments during a telephonic conversation with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
Separately, Dar also spoke with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, who welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India.
Dar also spoke with Foreign Minister of Turkiye Hakan Fidan and apprised him of the current situation in the region.
