Sara Tendulkar, a registered nutritionist and biomedical scientist, has carved an identity beyond being cricket veteran Sachin Tendulkar’s daughter. In a recent conversation with Vogue India, the youth icon shared that she had started getting acne on her face since the seventh grade. “It affected my self-esteem because if you have PCOS, your androgens are much higher, so you get more hair growth, acne, oily skin and you put on weight easily,” said the science student.
“When I was old enough to apply makeup, I wouldn’t leave the house without it because I thought everyone was looking at my skin. I’ve tried everything to get over it—from acid peels and retinol to topical and oral antibiotics, you name it. Until mum stepped in,” she shared.
the medical way since nothing was working. An endocrinologist introduced her to intermittent fasting, weight training and progressive overload, which finally helped. “Balancing her protein intake while losing weight and gaining muscle was crucial and eventually, her hormones balanced themselves out and she is now free from PCOS,” her mother Anjali Tendulkar revealed in the interview.
“I’ve gone through phases of detox juices, but I don’t really follow one singular approach. I begin my mornings with water, nuts and a cup of black coffee because I like working out early. The coffee is non-negotiable. On other days, it depends on my schedule and mood,” said junior Tendulkar.
Dr Pranav Honnavara Srinivasan, senior consultant gastroenterologist at Fortis , told that drinking black coffee daily can offer several potential health benefits, many of which are linked to its rich content of antioxidants, caffeine, and essential nutrients like B vitamins.
Improved Mental Alertness and Concentration: One of the most immediate benefits of drinking black coffee is its effect on mental alertness. The caffeine in coffee acts as a central nervous system stimulant, blocking adenosine receptors in the brain and promoting the release of neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine.
Enhanced Physical Performance: Caffeine is also known to increase adrenaline levels in the bloodstream, which can enhance physical performance by preparing the body for physical exertion.
Boosted Metabolism and Fat Burning: Black coffee has been shown to increase metabolic rate by 3-11%, which can help in burning fat more efficiently. The caffeine content stimulates thermogenesis — the process by which the body generates heat and energy from digesting food.
Rich Source of Antioxidants: Coffee is packed with antioxidants, which help fight free radicals in the body. These antioxidants can reduce inflammation and support overall cellular health.
However, Dr Srinivasan warned that too much caffeine can lead to increased levels of anxiety, restlessness, and irritability, particularly in those who are more sensitive to stimulants. This is because caffeine increases cortisol production, which can exacerbate stress responses. Hence moderation is important.
