The Sankranthi festive season has ended and everyone from Telugu states is getting back to their work. However, the festivities in the theatres continued as Venkatesh’s Sankranthiki Vasthunnam emerged as a mega blockbuster at the box office and emerged as the clear winner of this Pongal.
Directed by Anil Ravipudi, Sankranthiki Vasthunnam was the last Pongal release but the biggest hit among all films in the festive race. The family entertainer received a unanimous positive talk and collected more than Rs. 131 crores in four days. The film also crossed the breakeven mark in all regions. The film is expected to generate huge profits for all parties involved this weekend.
The runner-up of the race is Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Daaku Maharaaj. Directed by Bobby Kolli, this Nandamuri Balakrishna-starrer also grossed more than 100 crores at the box office. Reportedly, it recovered 82% within six days of its release and is expected to cross the breakeven mark by this weekend.
However, the biggest film of all, Game Changer, ended up being an unfortunate disaster. Reportedly, the film collected a gross of Rs. 170 crore and a share of Rs. 88 crore. It needed to collect a share of more than 220 crores, which means the film caused the parties involved to lose more than 130 crores. The only respite for producer Dil Raju is the super success of Sankranthiki Vasthunnam, which saved him reasonably well from the Game Changer’s losses. For the unversed, both films were produced by him and distributed Daaku Maharaaj in Nizam.
