Supreme Court recently gave interim protection from arrest to YouTuber for allegedly making obscene remarks on comedian ‘s India’s Got Latent. Abhinav Chandrachud, the son of former CJI DY Chandrachud appeared in front of the Supreme Court on Tuesday for Ranveer. The apex court heard a plea filed by the YouTuber seeking to club FIRs and gave him anticipatory bail against possible arrest by Guwahati Police.

During the hearing, Abhinav Chandrachud raked up the 2022 case linked with former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma while presenting his argument. Abhinav drew a parallel to Nupur Sharma’s case and said that her remarks were much worse than those made by Ranveer. This comparison has sparked yet another controversy. Netizens backlashed Ranveer and his lawyer for making such comparisons. Many expressed disbelief at Chandrachud’s comparison between Ranveer and Nupur. One user said, “I was fine when Ranveer Allahbadia apologized. But dragging Nupur Sharma’s statement in courts where she spoke facts after she was provoked by jihadis makes him no less than liberandu. All his channels should be banned. One user said, “Can there be any comparison between a perverted statement by this filth Allahbadia and the truth said by Nupur Sharma? I am speechless.” Third user wrote, “While pleading for relief… this false equivalence to get bail for Ranveer Allahbadia is condemnable”.

The lawyer also claimed that a threat has been issued for cutting the tongue of Ranveer and the person doing so will get Rs 5 lakh. Though the Bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice N Kotiswar Singh granted relief to the petitioner, the court condemned his remarks by saying, “There has to be a height of lack of responsibility. This kind of condemnable behavior… that somebody thinks himself that I can, because now I have become so and so popular and therefore I can speak any kind of words and that I can take the entire society for granted”.

The court has further ordered no more police cases to be filed against him on the same matter and asked him to surrender his passport to police in Maharashtra’s Thane. The court has further barred him from participating in any further stand-up comedy or roast shows.
