About 25 to 30 years ago, audio cassettes were popular for listening to songs, and before that, gramophone records were common. For those who couldn’t watch movies repeatedly in theaters, audio cassettes with just dialogues became a trend. Movies like Daana Veera Soora Karna, Sholay, and Adavi Ramudu set record sales. These cassettes remained until around 2003-2004, after which MP3 took over.

Today, digital platforms like YouTube Music, Spotify, JioSaavn, and Apple iTunes dominate the scene. With the rise of OTT platforms, audiences can watch movies anytime, making the trend of releasing dialogues in audio form fade away, as listeners have become accustomed to just songs.

Pushpa 2: The Rule is trying to revive this trend by releasing a “Jukebox” on YouTube with only audio clips from key movie episodes. This means audiences can listen to the dialogues but can’t watch them.

If successful, other films may follow the same approach. However, for this to work, the dialogues must be compelling enough to make listeners return. Only then will the trend catch on.

Pushpa 2 has several strong dialogues. Scenes like Rao Ramesh telling Allu Arjun to become the CM, Srivalli describing her husband’s greatness, and Pushparaj’s red sandalwood deal in Dubai are captivating, even in audio form.

Two months after its release, Pushpa 2 continues to make an impact. The recent release on Netflix is setting new records, further proving the film’s dominance.
