Leader of Opposition in LS Rahul Gandhi Thursday said he would continue to fight until the Central and state governments implemented reservation in private institutions.
At an event in Darbhanga, Rahul accused PM of being “against the 90%”, referring to OBCs, EBCs, Dalits and minorities. He said Centre’s announcement of caste census came only because of pressure from a “vast majority of the population”. He also promised a complete overhaul of the education system when the Congress comes to power at the Centre and in Bihar.
At the Ambedkar Kalyan Hostel, he accused the local administration of barricading the road to the venue. “Do you know why they were not able to stop me?… Because I have the power of your backing… I came through the back doors.”
The Darbhanga administration had denied permission for Rahul’s event to take place at Ambedkar Kalyan Hostel, and Congress workers had made alternative arrangements at the Town Hall. However, Rahul made his way to Ambedkar Kalyan Hostel, where over 2,000 students from class 11, 12 and undergraduate courses had gathered.
During his fourth Bihar visit, Gandhi told students, “Atrocities against OBCs, EBCs, SCs and STs have been reported… You are being suppressed. You are being held up in the education system. Paper leaks in exams are being done to hurt or stop your careers.”
“First, caste census has to be conducted in the correct manner, the way it was done in Telangana. Second, despite laws providing for implementation of quotas in private institutions, neither the Narendra Modi government nor the Bihar government has done it. The way police could not stop me from coming here, we will not stop our fight till quota is implemented in private institutions.”
