Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday morning held a meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan, and chiefs of the three armed forces amid reports of drone sightings in Jammu and Kashmir even after the between India and Pakistan Saturday.
While the situation on the Line of Control (LoC) is said to be stable now, the meeting is understood to have reviewed the events through Saturday night, and a discussion was held on the steps needed to be taken to further bolster border defences.
Defence Minister is also expected to shortly virtually inaugurate the unit at the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor in . The facility is designed to manufacture 80 to 100 missiles annually.
The Defence Ministry is also expected to hold a press briefing on the situation following the ceasefire declaration.
A similar high-level meeting was held by PM Modi Saturday hours before the two countries declared a ceasefire. The meeting was attended by Rajnath Singh, NSA Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and the three service chiefs among others.
Later, Jaishankar said in a statement Saturday that India would continue its firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism. “India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on the stoppage of firing and military action. India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so,” Jaishankar said.
Hours after the ceasefire agreement to stop military action, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri late Saturday called upon Pakistan to address the repeated violations along India’s northern and western borders after the two countries signed a ceasefire with “immediate effect”.
He added that the Indian armed forces, on strong vigil, were giving an appropriate and adequate response to the “breach of understanding”. Multiple explosions and sirens were heard in and Kashmir’s Srinagar and Anantnag, Barmer in Rajasthan, and Kutch in Gujarat Saturday night.
