Following India’s strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, all border areas of Rajasthan have been put on high alert.
Taking precautionary measures, Bikaner and Jodhpur airports have been closed and flights have been cancelled.
Among other measures taken were the shutting of all schools, both government and private, for Wednesday in Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer and Sri Ganganagar districts.
Barmer Collector Tina Dabi told , “We have decided to shut down the schools to avoid any mishap in case the situation escalates. The annual exams for classes 9 and 11 were going on, and they have been called off as well. A mock drill will start as per the planned timing of 4 pm. All the border districts have taken this decision.”
Government employees’ leaves have been cancelled in Bikaner and Sri Ganganagar districts, and they have been ordered not to leave district headquarters.
Jodhpur Airport Authority Director Dr Manoj Uniyal told the media, “Around nine flights from Jodhpur airport have been cancelled for today. Messages have been sent to passengers about the cancellation. A help desk has been set up at the airport to help the passengers in case of any enquiry.”
He emphasised that this decision is just for one day, as per orders received, and that any further decisions will be communicated to the public by evening.
Charan Singh, officer-in-charge of Jaipur Airport, confirmed that two flights from Jaipur airport have also been cancelled and that security has been increased.
Residents of border villages in Sri Ganganagar and Bikaner have been asked to leave the border areas and move to safer locations.
India’s strikes in Pakistan and PoK, conducted in the early of Wednesday, is being referred to as Operation Sindoor. It came two weeks after a terrorist attack in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam, carried out by militants from across the border, killed 26 civilians.
