Mahabharat star was recently arrested by the Kolkata Police. The actress was a part of a peaceful protest on the premises of Bansdroni Police Station. It’s the same area where a schoolboy died after getting hit by an excavator in Bansdroni. Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma also gave a statement on the actress’ arrest in Kolkata. Ganguly was being taken to court after her arrest at the dharna near the police station.
In a statement to ANI, Manoj Kumar Verma said that the unfortunate incident of a schoolboy’s death happened on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. The kid died in an accident and law and order situation was involved. The commissioner revealed that multiple cases have been lodged in this case and five people have been arrested so far. “Roopa Ganguly arrived at the police station; she said that the police released the arrested people without any conditions, they were arrested for manhandling the police,” shared Verma.
Further about Roopa Ganguly, Commissioner Verma said that they informed the former Rajya Sabha MP and others that a legal action will be against them. If anyone has issues with the same, they should approach the court. About the actress, Verma stated, “She sat on a dharna and did not move from there despite repeated requests, hence obstructing the function of the police station. So, a case was registered against her too. She was arrested and produced before court.”
On the other hand, Roopa Ganguly also shared her reaction to the arrest. The actress told ANI that a tragic incident happened where a payloader killed a 14-year-old schoolboy. The boy was on his way to tuition and the vehicle was not driven by the driver. Roopa stated, “It was a training session happening; locals complained that those four boys were drunk, and they are close aides of the local 113-ward TMC counsellor.” After the arrest, the Mahabharat actress was taken to the Kolkata Police Headquarters at Lalbazar.
