L2: Empuraan was released in theatres last week. The political crime drama stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Mohanlal, and it is a sequel to the 2019 film, Lucifer. The Malayalam movie received great reviews at the box office. However, it faced tough competition on its fourth day of release with Salman Khan’s Sikandar.

Salman Khan’s Hindi action thriller released in theatres on March 30. The movie received mixed reviews from critics and poor reviews from the audience. But it looks like it is giving a neck-to-neck competition to L2: Empuraan with the box office numbers.

As per the reports, Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s film earned Rs 14 crore at the box office on March 30, its fourth day. The total box office collection is reportedly Rs 59.35 crores, as stated by Sacnilk. The number is higher by 26 percent compared to its previous days earnings of Rs 13.25 and 11.1 crore on Saturday and Friday. On its opening day, the movie earned Rs 21 crore.

On the other hand, Salman Khan’s Sikandar had an opening of Rs 20 crore. It would be interesting to see how Salman’s film performs at the box office in the coming days. Directed by AR Murugadoss, the film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Sathyaraj, Randeep Hooda, and Prateik Babbar. On the other hand, L2: Empuraan has been in the news for its references to the 2002 Gujarat riots. The movie has undergone 17 cuts after backlash from the right wing.

Mohanlal even issued an apology that mentioned, “I have learnt that some of my dear well-wishers have been deeply troubled by certain political and social themes in Empuraan. As an artist, it is my responsibility to ensure that none of my films spread animosity toward any political movement, ideology, or religious community. I sincerely regret the distress this has caused, and the Empuraan team and I fully acknowledge our responsibility in this matter. With this realisation, we have collectively decided to remove such elements from the film.”
