Comedian has faced severe backlash ever since an episode of India’s Got Latent featuring went viral. The controversy began after Ranveer asked “sex with parents” question to a male contestant and sparked outrage. This further led to multiple FIRs against both Samay and Ranveer. According to reports, journalist Faridoon Shahryar attended ‘s show in Vancouver, and revealed that the comedian received a standing ovation upon his entry. Later, the comedian shared his conversation with Tanmay Bhat and asked him whether one loses appetite when such controversial scandals happen.
Samay took a jab at Tanmay Bhat’s weight, and said, “Maine @tanmaybhat bhai se baat kiya, maine kaha tanmay bhai jab aisa kuch hota hai kaand toh aisa hota hai ki bhook nahi lagti? Toh unhone kaha haan bhook nahi lagti aise mein. Maine kaha aap kaise mote ho gaye the Phir? (I talked to Tanmay Bhat, I said, ‘Tanmay bhai, when something like this happens, a scandal, doesn’t it make you lose your appetite?’ He replied, ‘Yes, you don’t feel hungry in such situations.’ I then asked, ‘So how did you become so fat then?’)
Following the public condemnation and legal troubles, Samay Raina took down all the India’s Got Latent videos from his channel. In a social media post, Samay wrote that everything that is happening is too much to handle and thus he is removing all the videos from his channel. He added that his objective was to make people laugh. He assured that he will cooperate with the agencies in investigation.
Ranveer Allahbadia too took to his social media to extend an apology for his remarks post the controversy. He also moved Supreme Court with a plea to merge all the FIRs against him filed in different states. He was granted interim protection from arrest but was reprimanded by the judges for his statement.
