Headlined by has been in the news for a while now. Kesari Chapter 2 was one of the most anticipated releases of April which released on April 18 and got positive reviews. But, despite positive talks, the film has opened on a bad note. Kesari 2’s opening is less than Akshay’s last release, Sky Force.
As per the trade tracking portal Sacnilk, till 10.20, Kesari Chapter 2 has collected Rs 7.50 crore, while Sky Force, collected Rs 12.50 crore on its first day. Kesari 2 has an overall occupancy of 17.40% and its morning shows occupancy was 12.67%, while afternoon and evening shows, the occupancy was 19.76%. Kesari 2 might have a good box office run over the weekend.
The film is facing stiff competition from Sunny Deol’s Jaat which continues to hold the masses. Kesari Chapter 2 is a story about the aftermath of the heinous genocide, wherein C Shankaran Nair stands against the British Empire, and brings General Dyer and the Viceroy Commission to court. The movie is directed by debutant director Karan Singh Tyagi. Kesari 2 features R. Madhavan as Advocate Neville McKinley, and Ananya Panday as Dilreet Gill.
Talking about Sunny Deol’s Jaat, the film had grossed Rs 13 crore worldwide on its opening day. As per trade sources, Jaat earned Rs 11.60 crore gross in India on day 1 and has earned less than $200k overseas ( Rs 1.50 crore). Jaat was unable to give Sikandar any competition as Salman’s film opened at Rs 54 crore worldwide.
Sunny-starrer has opened even lower than Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force. Directed by Gopichand Malineni in his Hindi debut, Jaat stars Regina Cassandra, Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Singh, Saiyami Kher, Ramya Krishnan, and Jagapathi Babu in important roles.
