It is not common for people to get scammed online. A click on the wrong link can cost a person a lot. However, such scams not only trap common people but also celebrities. Karan Johar recently revealed how an actress was scammed online by people posing as salespersons on Instagram. The false scheme cost the actress thousands of rupees.
On Con-versation Podcast, Karan Johar said, “I know someone close to me who got scammed. I can’t mention her name, she won’t like it. She was a famous friend of mine, an actress, and she had to go to this international film festival. Generally while scrolling through Instagram one night she saw that there was a limited edition designer outfit.”
The Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani director added, “It was supposed to be sold at an unbelievable price. Originally priced at about Rs 4.5 lakh for just Rs 82,000 or something. She thought, ‘Wow, what a deal.’ She DMed them and they immediately responded, ‘Oh, it’s the last piece. Grab it now otherwise, you’re going to lose it.’ She got really excited. This price was perfect for her to spend. When she asked for pictures of the gown, they shared every single detail. She just transferred the money through her UPI ID. Not only did the gown never arrive but she also repeatedly pressed them for the delivery or a refund. Nothing happened.”
Karan Johar’s video making these claims have gone viral on social media. On Reddit people are trying to guess if it is Alia Bhatt or Kiara Advani. One person wrote, “Any guesses who? Seems like maybe Kiara or Alia.” Another comment reads, “Alia has mentioned that she isn’t an avid shopper and she doesn’t really own designer pieces. They are mostly given by her stylist.: Some even believe that Karan is lying and commented, “Made up story. To promote the podcast this not the way someone shares an actual annecdote nor this ois how kjo speak informally. This is a written piece indirect promotion of the podcast. “Con – versation”. Probably coz it goes with the theme of the podcast.”
