In a recent chat with trade analyst Komal Nahta, Karan Johar got candid about films and more. He also gave example of SS Rajamouli’s films to assert that when logic takes a backseat, it is the conviction of the filmmaker that makes a movie a hit.
During the chat, was asked “when logic takes a backseat, what takes the front?” To this, the filmmaker promptly replied ‘conviction’. He added that conviction is very important in a filmmaker and that if there is conviction, ‘logic won’t matter’. He then cited as an example. He questioned ‘Where can you spot logic?’ in SS Rajamouli’s movie and emphasised that one can only see conviction. Karan said, “When that conviction comes to the forefront, even the audience will believe you. This holds true for all major blockbusters, including Animal, RRR and Gadar. They were all driven by conviction.”
Karan Johar also spoke about’s films Gadar and Gadar 2. He added that if a person is shown beating up 1000 people with a handpump, it is because of conviction. As a filmmaker, Anil Sharma believes that Sunny Deol can do it, so the audience believes it too, Karan said. The filmmaker also shared that focusing too much on logic can lead to a film being a disaster.
