Karan not only made his acting debut in SRK’s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, but his directorial journey too commenced with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which features the superstar along with Kajol and Rani Mukerji. Every film that SRK has done with Karan has become a big hit at the box office. In an interview, Karan showered praises on the superstar and talked about his global stardom.
On a podcast, Karan Johar was asked about the success of his films at an international level and how Shah Rukh Khan impacted his career. The My Name is Khan director said, “This is a ‘chance pe dance’ situation. These were my chances, and I danced on them. The love and respect I receive there, it’s all because of one person, and that is Shah Rukh Khan. This silsila started with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, then it reached Dil To Pagal Hai, then Kuch Kuch Hota Hai came, then Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, then Kal Ho Naa Ho, and finally Devdas… these films are the pillars of overseas success.”
Further on this podcast with Komal Nahta, KJo spoke about SRK’s massive global stardom. The Kal Ho Naa Ho producer stated, ““If you go overseas, it’s not just limited to the UK, USA, and Australia. If you go anywhere in Europe, France, Germany, or Egypt… for them, the film means Shah Rukh Khan. He is not just a star; he is an emotion.”
Meanwhile, Karan Johar’s and Shah Rukh Khan’s last film together was My Name is Khan, which recently completed 15 years since its release. In 2016, SRK made a special appearance in Karan’s romantic drama, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The film starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and Fawad Khan.
